Mirrors are installed without a gap between the plastic gasket and the metal cover. This is difficult when you need to drill new holes. Accurate placement is crucial to avoid gaps. Once you've drilled holes in the paint, there's no turning back. Everything is very complicated when drilling non-standard color. These were new mirrors and I didn't have to replace the old ones. I'm not sure what the setup will be like using the original mounting holes, I can only speak of new placement. The only thing I didn't like was the grommet, you have to be careful when moving the cap during installation because it can get damaged. These are aftermarket mirrors so I didn't expect them to fit so well.
