Good luck on your buck

At the moment the radios seem pretty reliable for the price. Selecting a radio channel is fairly intuitive, although many of the menu items work rather cryptically without a guide next to the radio the moment you program them. Testing VHF in our area with rolling mountains 300-400 feet high and small canyons showed the distance was about 6-7 miles on the first test. We need to do more testing to make sure it's fully functional. UHF was not tested due to lack of time. Speaker quality isn't great, but is clear and readable at a limited wireless distance, according to our tests. Delivery and purchase went without incident, which is what I expected from Revain. Overall I would give 5 stars for price and performance. I have a Kenwood THF6 to compare this radio to and it's not a Kenwood. It's also 90% cheaper. Look for newer models but another model I bought for my son seems to have some different channel limitations built in which this radio doesn't have. I don't know if it's a batch, firmware or software change in builds or not. This radio appears to have very few channel locks so be careful when broadcasting that you are on a frequency that you are allowed to be on. I ordered the optional stub and installed it on both radios prior to testing, so these range rates are based on the optional antenna and will likely drop significantly with the standard short stub they offer. The $16 app for an extra whip is a good investment. Add a programming disk and cable and you're done. This way you can clone all your radios with the same memory setting. In terms of price and performance, it is unbeatable as an entry-level or backup radio. Perfect for survivalists, but again, it's all ham radio here, so get your licenses. Double work 2 meters / 440.
