Quality tool. Period. As soon as you feel it in your hands, just understand that you have a good tool in your hands. The weight is perfect and it feels comfortable in the hand. Probably the hardest part is NOT USING YOUR HEAD TO BREAK ROCKS. When you receive the tool, there is a sticker on it that specifically states not to use the pointed end to break rocks. It is intended for digging stones. Estwing also warns against using the end of the hammer to break rocks - it was designed to drive in wooden pegs. After reading these two warnings on the packaging, I was initially confused and thought this wasn't going to be a very useful tool. However, after many experiences in this field, I can tell you that this is a beautifully designed tool that can have many uses for any climbing dog. The end of the pickaxe is great for pulling out deep-seated rocks. I use it to get flint and flint out of the ground and it works wonders.
