Review on πŸ”„ Certified Refurbished Garmin Edge Touring Plus Navigator by Kurt Ahui

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Ideal for the cyclist.

This is exactly what I was looking for. I've long wanted something that would take me to unfamiliar places without having to stop every few miles to make sure I stayed on course. I wish I had bought it a few years ago when it first came out. However, I can't give it 5 stars because there are some programming frustrations: 1. Navigation/tracking is disabled without warning. First, the TRIP button doesn't do what it promises. After pressing "RIDE" you must press the start timer button or your navigation/tracking will not start. Second, if you press the HOME button, check or change settings, change ANYTHING on your route, or power cycle the device (or turn it off automatically), navigation/tracking will turn off without warning. . Of course, the thing does NOT tell you that you're not navigating or tracking, you just eventually realize that your distance hasn't changed in 15-20 minutes. When this happens (and it happens to me multiple times per ride) you have to remember to hit the start timer button to start tracking again. It handles waypoints horribly (or not at all) - if you're planning a route with multiple waypoints and let the device recalculate your route, IT SKIP ALL WAYPOINTS AND MOVE DIRECTLY TO THE DESTINATION. Who the hell wants that to happen? To avoid this you either have to program each waypoint, cycle to it and then program the next one. If you are following a loaded GPX or TCX course, you must disable redirection. Keep in mind that refurbished models may have some issues. My first had a bad battery (max run time is about 3 hours no matter what I do). I returned it. The second has a cracked pixel at the bottom of the screen and some minor abrasions on the sides, but neither were enough for me to return it.
