I noticed my 2001 Toyota RAV4 was having some misfires and eventually threw out the bulb test motor. with misfire codes. Typical symptoms are speed jumps when stopping at a red traffic light and heavy acceleration. After removing the coils to check the spark plugs, I noticed that one of the boots was broken in half and the other coil had a crack down the side. I decided that as the car ages it's better to just replace all the ignition coils. It's been about a month now and the machine is running great without any of the issues listed above. *Update (10/2/17) I had intermittent misfires about a month ago. As a result, the check engine light came on with a misfire in one of the cylinders. Coil changed and checked for sparks. After some testing I was able to confirm that one of the coils failed just over a year ago. Very disappointed that I had to replace another coil.
