I love seeing my friends faces as they try to get through the gate. We can go through them without thinking about it. Climbing through with a "wide load" like a baby carrier/car seat, grocery boxes, or garbage bag is quite difficult (careful not to tear a hole), but it's a fair compromise. We didn't want to have a gate that we had to completely remove every time, but we also didn't want the gate to be permanently installed. We did notice that the rubber pad stuck to the paint over time, but we chalk it up to cheaper paint but can't say for sure as we haven't tried it on higher quality paint (the landlord won't let us paint). One experience we've had (through our own fault) is that we get so used to going through them that sometimes we don't fully unlock the gate before trying to get through. My wife bumped into the gate and bent it just enough so that it didn't automatically latch when closed. We had to "manually" block them. They still functioned as gates, but the convenience of being able to get through and move on without worrying about the gate locking again was gone. I messed with it until I saved some money to buy a new one. It didn't take long as it's relatively cheap for a baby gate with these characteristics. In general we are very happy with the goal. Rather than throwing away the broken ones I will keep the extensions and also use the rest of the gate for garden/Halloween decoration (because the poles are nice and strong).
