Be brave. It's worth it.

See if this sounds familiar: My touchscreen in my 2014 SRX stopped responding to touches, but everything else seemed to work. Called the dealer and was told it would cost around $2000 because not only do they have to replace the screen, they have to replace the entire control panel. It seemed wasteful and silly so I started looking for a part to see if I could make it myself. After finding this and watching a few videos it didn't seem too difficult. I bought a car trim removal tool kit here for about $9 and they were NEEDED for the task so make sure you do. The actual installation work wasn't that bad, but disassembling the entire dashboard was pretty nerve-wracking. I was sure I would break something and be stuck with a cracked finish. Find a YouTube video that shows you the exact order in which to do your work and you'll be fine. Once you've removed the panel, all you need is a few screws to pry the console out of the dash, and then a few more screws to remove the screen. I took some photos along the way so I can put everything back together later. Took me about two hours total and saved about $1,750. You can't beat that hourly rate. After about four months, the screen is still running like a champ.
