Update December 2014: We sold it with our van about 9 months ago. At that time it still worked great after more than 3 years of use. A simple device that works as needed. Completion of the update. We've been using it in our van for about 1 month now to supplement an old VHS system. The unit came with a surprising amount of cables for various installation purposes. Nothing else was required to complete the installation for my application. The remote sensor for the remote control is a particularly handy feature as the unit can be placed in the van's A/V compartment but the remote will still work as it is in direct line with the remote sensor. In comparison, the remote control for the old VHS set that complements this DVD player requires the closet door to be open for the site manager. In my A/V closet I don't have access to the 12V DC power needed for a full installation, so I connected the 12V DC to the 12V accessory. Since this current is cut off when the car is turned off, I thought we would lose the film's position, but that doesn't happen. Also completely separated from the power pack is like a game position. Perhaps all of this is normal and obvious to someone experienced with this type of installation. In this case, my observation is that this best-priced device (at the time of my order) has everything you would expect. It's still worth a good review. The local radio store was offering $350 to install a similar unit in my van - this unit at 20% off that price was a far better deal. Additional note on use - Unlike home DVD devices, this mobile device has its own volume control. Initially, this was set to medium, which meant that when the TV was at full volume, it was only 50%. I was disappointed that the volume was too low while driving for good audio playback. Detecting the existence of a separate volume and increasing it to 100% eliminated the problem. I'm not sure why the DVD has a volume control, but it's good to know!
