Review on Sioux Chief 660-TK Mini Rester: Female Swivel Nut with Male Ballcock Thread - Brass/Antique Brass by Troy Jennings

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Zero quality control (was: Works great (but no instructions))

UPDATE: 660-TK I bought a few years ago, worked great, no leaks but finally stopped preventing knocking . It's okay, I bought another one. He splashed water everywhere. I got a refund and a new one and the other one did the same. I read the Revain reviews, saw what the problem was and how to fix it, so I took an 8mm allen wrench, added some tape and tightened it. Both are now not spouting water, but they are slowly licking water (drops about every 20 seconds; useless on floors). It's one thing to sell a product that needs repairing (that might put it at 3 stars) but if it's not even repairable how can you give it stars? They used to be GREAT (see my original review below) and I'd love to bring the old quality back but it's gone. ORIGINAL REVIEW: First, good: This fixes the loud bang (water hammer) in 3 new Toto Drake toilets we installed. I have no idea why the plumbers who installed them didn't say a word (didn't they flush the toilets to check or didn't hear a knock?). Modern toilets, washing machines and dishwashers seem to have problems with water hammer even with normal household water pressure. Installation was quick and easy, but with no instructions (or even a "See this webpage for instructions" notice). I have a feeling they are meant to be installed by plumbers. I turned off the water in the toilet (I didn't turn off the water in the whole house), flushed several times until the tank was empty (FYI you'll get at least a few drops of clean water when it runs out). unscrew the flexible hose), unscrew the flexible hose where it connects to the toilet, put tape on the metal side of the water seal (not the plastic side of the toilet, I couldn't reach it easily), screw screwed the flexible hose hose to the water seal, water seal to the toilet and slowly turned the water back on. I did 2 without tools, on the 3rd I needed a wrench to unscrew the connection to the toilet (the installation was done by 2 different plumbers, one tightened more than the other!). The difference in sound was really amazing, even more so than mine. expected. From a loud bang to quieter than the sound of a tank of fuel. I was concerned about leaking reviews but none of the 3 toilets I installed them on had leaks. My guess is that people who have leaks have one of three reasons: [1] the random person who just stops screwing connections before they're tight, [2] people with pipes who need duct tape to fix them to protect against leaks, and [3 ] people with defective goods (annoying, but you can buy a new one and the leak has to be instantaneous for no damage to occur). The only negative for me is the lack of instructions, which was *almost* enough to justify 4 stars, but not really.

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • Not the best
