Review on GoldTone Reusable Basket Coffee Filter by Gilbert Pfaff

Overflow problems solved, great taste, no coffee grounds problems

Summary: The first photo shows the filter basket right after brewing. I've used it maybe a few dozen times and it hasn't clogged or overflowed. Perfect. The second photo shows the bottom of the coffee pot. You will see some "dusty" particles. This is not crunchy coffee grounds, but very small particles. They look disconcerting, but I don't feel them in my mouth - at least I find they add a nice nutty depth to the coffee. Nothing clogs - it's easy to rinse. I drink a cup of coffee every day while working from home. These easy to use, decent coffee makers are great. I use an old Black and Decker 12 pot drip coffee maker. I had problems with the filter basket overflowing (with paper filter baskets). This solved the problem. At least one other reviewer mentioned the importance of coffee grinding. I agree. When you use vortex blade grinders, they turn very small particles into fairly large ones, and tiny particles can jam the stainless steel mesh. If you love coffee, consider getting a coffee grinder (in which two plates or cones slowly rotate and grind the coffee). They make a much more even ground coffee and you can grind your coffee well without clogging the filter and even the grind size makes good coffee. I also have an espresso machine, but you can't make good coffee without a good grind. With this filter I can grind my coffee coarsely or finely (with a coffee grinder) and the result is consistent - no overflow and perfectly tasting coffee. The mesh is really thin - I'm amazed at how good this stainless steel mesh is. So I can see that if you have too much dust in your coffee grounds (like when you use a knife grinder and just grind your coffee) the coffee grounds get dirty and the basket overflows. However, there is no filter that can handle cloudy coffee paste. The first photo shows the filter basket, with probably the finest ground coffee I'm willing to grind, and a maximum of 12 cups in the coffee maker. No questions. If I grind the coffee a little coarser, the water level doesn't seem to rise at all. Enough grinding and coffee. the taste is perfect. You can see in the second photo that there is some coffee powder/dust on the bottom of the coffee pot. These aren't coffee grounds, which means they're not crunchy and I don't feel them in my mouth. If you can see how fine the filter mesh is and these particles are smaller than the mesh, you won't feel them at all. I think you will feel that they are tastier and deeper. So why am I writing such a long review on a cheap coffee filter? because it finally solved all my coffee filter problems! It is easy to clean and works perfectly. As some people have pointed out, the bottom is solid and not mesh. However, I found no problem. You want the hot water to stand a bit instead of going straight to the bottom and going. As far as I can tell the Mesh is a perfect mix of both worlds (good flavor with no overflowing baskets), consistently brewing good coffee with no overflow issues. In terms of cleaning, I haven't noticed a single clogged mesh eye. Again, the grid is tiny. If something clogs this grid. I think you need to check the grind size. I just flush the filter and everything is fine.
