Not for hobbyists

I bought this box (from Revain) as a kit along with many other parts I needed to build a complete system. equipment engineer. I installed my own professional system in another house many years ago. Despite my experience, I spent many hours setting up and programming this system and asking a few questions on the alarm forum. The system I installed many years ago had a computer interface with a program specific to my device. It was a much simpler setup. All my programs were on the 6160RF keyboard. This is a new keyboard (6260) that should have some programming built in, but I couldn't find anyone who has actually used it. The documentation is helpful in some areas and deficient in others. Again, this system is sold with the expectation that it will be installed by a professional alarm installer. It's good gear, but there are far better options for the beginner. If you buy one, here are my recommendations: 1. Get the RF option on your keyboard even if you don't think you need RF devices. The difference in cost is small and you will likely find later that you need one or more RF sensors.2. Get a 7Ah battery instead of the 4Ah battery that most people include in their kits. It ages longer and lasts longer under stress. Again, the cost difference should be small.3. Take the external horn (#702). The Wave2 that most people sell isn't entirely weatherproof, and it's not loud enough to wake the neighbors. Use Wave2 as second horn.4. Include fire alarms in your system. If you have both security and fire, you get a very big discount on home insurance. My discount covers all my monitoring costs. It's also a good defense to call the fire department in the event of a fire when you're not at home.
