This is our 2nd Ruffwear life jacket for this dog. I thought the last one was good, this is definitely better. Thicker and fuller under the chin does add buoyancy and helps keep the dogs head up. Mine either has a ball in her mouth or could be in waves so I do think this makes a difference. The handle on the back is sturdier. So much so that I use it often now, getting her in or out of the kayak. It feels like it's more stable and I have more control of the dog. There is no slippage or movement, she is very secure no matter what the water activity.
