My solar system is 12V. It takes a little more than 12V to charge 12V batteries, so the system accepts voltage up to 22V and then regulates them softer state of charge. However, my most recently added panels measure 42V in bright sunlight. To make them usable I bought a DC-DC converter that outputs just over 12V, but that's a bit short for efficient charging. So, after the panel and then the drop-down converter, I needed a third element to boost the voltage a bit. Now with two converters in series my 42v panels provide a good 20v supply for the controller which is easily adjusted with the output voltage adjustment screw on this product.
