Review on Compact and Convenient: Vantec 4-Port USB 3.0 Bus-Powered Travel Hub (UGT-MH400U3),Black by Omar Austin

Works well and does what it's supposed to do

The USB 3.0 ports are on the back of my computer, so plugging and unplugging a flash drive is quite difficult. I bought something and decided on this one. Ports are a little strange; Sometimes I have to play with the port to make it recognize my flash drive. I can't tell how fast it is because I don't have any software to test it, but my computer recognizes it as 3.0 because it doesn't give me the "runs faster on a 3.0 port" message that I get when I do insert the flash drive into regular USB ports. I have found that files are copied much faster than with 2.0 ports. I noticed an odd thing: my flash drive gets EXTREMELY hot when I plug it in. I also have a 3.0 version of WD Passport that I plug in and it stays at normal temperature. But for some reason the flash drive is too hot to turn off immediately even if it hasn't been used all the time. The USB cable that goes from it to the computer is a bit short, but for me it's not critical. It's great value for money and does what it's supposed to do. One star off for the quirkiness of the ports (at first I thought one port just didn't work). It is also backward compatible unless the product description mentions it.

Pros
  • Rugged design
Cons
  • No auto configuration
