If your desk or table already has a hole drilled in it, remember that the inside diameter (where the socket "should" rest) is 50mm, not 2 inches. It will be a little loose. Others have stated (including me before) that the inside diameter is 1-7/8 inches. This applies to the "base" but the "cylinder" tapers to 50mm and the 1-7/8" diameter hole is not wide enough to fully accommodate the socket.
