If your desk or table already has a hole drilled in it, remember that the inside diameter (where the socket "should" rest) is 50mm, not 2 inches. It will be a little loose. Others have stated (including me before) that the inside diameter is 1-7/8 inches. This applies to the "base" but the "cylinder" tapers to 50mm and the 1-7/8" diameter hole is not wide enough to fully accommodate the socket. If your table doesn't already have one hole, if you have the time you should probably have a bushing on hand before you start cutting!Measure twice, cut once But as I said the most important thing is the size at the widest point of the "insert" , so 50mm, just under two inches (1.97" that's a tree) and not a hole saw - more accurate and smooth. 50mm would be ideal, 2" would work.
