I bought this device because it is similar to the product mentioned on the parent blog and is actually very similar to the timer we used in grad school to practice 20 minute research paper presentations. My kids use it all the time, sometimes "really" to count down 60 minutes of reading. Sometimes it's just for fun but I think the result is that everyone knows how long 30 minutes is etc. My kids are 4, 7 and 9 years old. So far, the timer has withstood their handling. I appreciate that it DOES NOT have batteries as they are finicky, costly over time and not very safe for toys/tools that children play with.
