I have had my Vitamix for 15 years now and after almost daily use the bearings in the jar are wearing out and a brown oily liquid is starting to leak. Luckily I was able to buy a jug for only a fraction of the cost of a brand new machine. It's lighter than my first one, partly because the blade body is plastic while the old one was metal, and partly because the plastic used for the new jar is different; thinner, smoother and looks slightly bluish. But even though it has been slightly modified, it still works well with the old bottom and lid. All in all a nice change, especially since the old pot was well used and wasn't the prettiest. I wonder how long a plastic case will last compared to a metal case? Probably not 15 years old. Keep your fingers crossed that I don't have to worry about it for long.
