A laptop to manage them all

I have several portable DMRs, but this is my first dual band. The HD1/GPS looks and feels like a solid Motorola radio and I'm sure that's no coincidence. For the money you get full VHF and UHF bands, narrowband or wideband, and the ability to introduce 2.5kHz steps after narrowband useful for business or public safety frequencies. Many functions can be programmed directly via the keyboard. You can play with 10 watts, it's waterproof, so to speak. All in all a really powerful radio in a very affordable package. I've used it on many DMRs and analog repeaters, both in the broadband (amateur) and narrowband businesses, and it works flawlessly. Okay, so what's wrong with that? No DTMF on the keyboard, annoying missed message screen on DMR, and a less stable Windows client. These are the only issues I've encountered and I'm sure most if not all of them can be fixed with a firmware update and a new version of the client software. I would like to know if it works on a Motorola Capacity Plus repeater. Overall this is the best and most powerful DMR radio I have.

Pros
  • GPS function gives you latlong; Height; Carrier; and speed information; Support for SMS function to send information to another radio with the same protocol DMR
Cons
  • So-so
