This would be a great travel surge protector. The ability to block outlets would be very handy to avoid disaster if liquids are spilled on the surface of a table or bedside table. However, for my purposes this was not enough, although most of it was my oversight. For example, I didn't notice that there is no red indicator to show if there was a power surge, which I kind of rely on to know my devices are safe. Second, the open position of the outlets is parallel to the length of the surge protector. So if you have electronic devices with large ports, you will lose some outlets. The USB ports probably make up for that.
