1 1/2 inch hidden.
I bought 1 1/4" earlier. A quarter inch doesn't seem like much but I think it looks more substantial. I felt the smaller one looked cheaper. (I'm not saying that it doesn't work, I prefer the 1 1/2 ""). Installed in my new shower and it's perfect. Highlights brushed nickel shower head and hinge. Very satisfied.
