I ordered this air purifier for our large room. We run it in "automatic" mode 24 hours a day and the air quality seems to be a bit better. We are very happy with this air purifier so far. Now 24 hours a day might seem like a lot, but in automatic mode the air purifier actively monitors air quality and adjusts fan speeds accordingly. As a result, the fan runs at a very low speed most of the time. This is great because running the fan at low speed not only saves power but also minimizes fan noise. We've had this air purifier for about ten days now, so I thought I'd give it a quick look. Filter cartridge, filter cartridge. And to be honest, it still looks very clean. But to be honest it's only been ten days. And I pretty much expected it to be pretty clean because I think the overall air in our house is pretty decent. Despite this, both of our dogs shed quite a bit so there was actually some dog hair on the filter cartridge and some visible dust in the folds. So it definitely works. We've never had breathing problems or allergies, so I won't say that this air purifier helped us breathe better/easier. That would definitely be an exaggeration. However, the air quality *seems* to be better. And for two reasons, better/cleaner air is the only thing we want from this air purifier. The first reason is simply that everyone wants to breathe good, clean air. The second reason is that we just want less dust flying around and settling on everything. We can dust things, and after a week there will be a noticeable amount of dust on things. I am sure this air purifier will help a lot with this problem. Finally, one of the reasons I decided to order this particular air purifier is that Carrier claims the filter will last up to a year. I don't want to change the filter every few months. However, when I need to replace a filter cartridge, it looks like it's going to cost me over $100, so I'm definitely not thrilled about it. It just seems overly/unnecessarily expensive. But despite everything I think this is a really good air purifier overall. So if you are looking for a new air purifier I think this is a good/reliable choice. My only criticism is the cost of the replacement filter cartridge. But I knew the cost. So if you can live with the cost of replacing the filter cartridge, I think you will be very happy with this air purifier.
