Review on BDL170 Bullseye Auto Leveling by BLACK+DECKER by Dan Ball

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Good idea, bad execution.

What a headache. So it's very convenient because you can attach it to the wall with a pin on the back. Hands-free leveling - what's not to like, right? It turns out a lot. Theoretically, you can display the laser line from above or from the side (each only individually). Again, you can *theoretically* lock the angle and then toggle the laser display depending on where you need to see the line. The problem is that the degree grid markings are REALLY small, NOT properly numbered (only every 15 degrees), and terribly inaccurate. Even if you're trying to draw a straight line on a wall and trying to spot hatching by eye, there's no way to use this tool alone to measure accurately. What looked like zero degrees on the display was A LOT wrong when looking at the laser on the wall. We had to use our flat spirit level on the laser line and adjust from there. Then (!) when we actually maxed that level and the secondary level, it was impossible to save, so we tried to block it. Every time we clicked on it to fix the laser line, it moved and we had to start over. I would definitely not buy this again.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Some difficulties
