Background: I bought this corkscrew from a hardware store at a bargain price below cost. The corkscrew is truly a work of art and my wife, who constantly checks my purchases for unnecessary items (we have 6 corkscrews in the house, 2 in the car, etc.), loved it and took it to work. Show her to co-workers and colleagues (she's buying a winery, so that makes sense). She loves it so much that she has contacted an Italian manufacturer and plans to stock the line at their winery retail store. Corkscrew. The fit and finish is very good, the wood and rivets are flush with no gaps. The corkscrew is 'XL', maybe 'XXL', about twice the size of other double-hinged corkscrews and 6 times the weight. It is made of stainless steel and wood. no plastic. It's very snug in my hand because of its size, and I feel like I'm using a solid tool that fits in this $75 cab, rather than the cheap Chinese Knockoff Pultap, which is now my second favorite wine opener. This is the only problem I've seen. is that I have to adjust my wine bottle opening technique a bit because I don't have to drive the screw as deep into the cork. The lugs on the swing arm aren't as deep and sharp as I'd like and can slip off a large bottle (think thicker bottles with slightly rounded necks) meaning I have to apply horizontal pressure to the arm to ensure the arm works . not slip off the bottle neck. I have yet to try the corkscrew on waxed bottles, but expect to have to maintain the same horizontal pressure even more (I usually push the cork through the wax and don't take it out first). The size of the corkscrew also makes it easier to open magnums and double magnums (with larger corks). Conclusion: This corkscrew is a functional work of art that every wine fan can have in their bottle opener collection and will make all other wine openers jealous. .
