Review on Pack of 12 Acuvar High Capacity 3100mAh NiMH AA Rechargeable Batteries by Stuart Rasmussen

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The product description doesn't tell the whole story - it's 3100mah at 1.2V

You'll have to read the fine print. These "3100" mAh batteries are 1.2V instead of 1.3V, which brings them closer to the equivalent of 1.3V and 2800mAh on paper (only 2.72Wh at 1.2V versus 2.77 Wh at 1.3V). The problem is that the lower voltage affects the electronics in such a way that a simple mAh value cannot be predicted. These batteries hold their charge fairly well in light load applications, but they don't work very well in high power electronics. This is mainly due to their 1.2V specification. In other words, the 3100mAh claim is misleading as most high performance NiMH batteries are rated at 1.3V. For someone with little experience in electronics, 0.1V may seem insignificant, but it is actually the case, especially in sensitive electronics. The real comparison of the services I can offer is the Yale Z-Wave Bolt - and it deserves a look. . I've seen comparable maintenance from standard 1.5V alkaline and 1.3V 1500mAh NiMH batteries. Watt-hour ratings don't indicate this, but the lower voltage (and proportional voltage drop over time) will cause the battery to approach the device's minimum voltage much faster and therefore stop functioning. The battery can still be charged, but is an unusable charge due to the lower voltage.
