All the fans of our construction company had a switch failure in 4 months. After messing around with replacing obscure fan switches that were never quite right, I decided to leave the fans high (whichever worked) and control them with this wall switch. I really wish I had thought about it beforehand. Unlike some fan switches, no hum. No one. They have 4 speeds instead of 3, which is actually not bad, although I didn't think it would make a difference. And the speed positions are fairly easy to read and easier to feel - good positive detents will clearly let you know when you've changed position. Another benefit is that it's now easy to tell which wall switch is the fan and which is the light - no more trying every switch on the wall plate. And although there are no wire nuts in the package (which someone has complained about), I have about two dozen spares of various items where I didn't need them - most likely you could, by the way, so I'm not calling - due to missing wire nuts.
