Absolutely necessary if you use a hydration bladder! Never again will you reach for that elusive hose to fetch water. I was originally going to buy the Camelbak brand version, but this was a few dollars cheaper, has better reviews, and is smaller and better looking. As I only have this one I can't really compare them but I can say this Osprey does not disappoint. I am a traveller/tourist and also carry a small backpack on a daily basis and the magnet has never let me down. This is a very small product and very light. It is universal for any brand of hydration bladder/pouch. The hole looks too small to fit your tube, but I had no problem opening it to slip into my Camelbak bladder tube. It's a good fit, but you can slide it around if needed to change its position, although it doesn't move on its own. As for the other part that attaches to your backpack's strap, it attaches very easily and didn't fly away or move for me. They only sell extra parts of the strap so you can have one for each pack if you have more than one which is very handy. I prefer to attach it to my chest strap, and it fits perfectly on both my Osprey Daylite backpack (pictured) and my 50L NevoRhino for hiking. All my friends were jealous of our last hike as they kept reaching behind her back for the missing inner tubes, but mine was always attached exactly where I wanted it. Depending on the position of the strap, you can even use it hands-free. It's such a small and inexpensive way to improve your life, so just spend $8!
