May 30 update. The rim detaches from the filter after less than six months of use. I am extremely disappointed. I used a pouring filter for a while but didn't have a carafe. Pour straight into a mug is fine, but I really wanted a decanter. This small one is enough for two cups of coffee (if you don't count the giant mug as one cup). The design is appealing. The filter works fine. The coffee tastes great! I recommend this carafe and filter if you want something that goes a step further than brewing one cup at a time. A bit difficult to clean without a brush. It sparkles from the dishwasher.
