Review on ⏱️ Enhance Precision with MSD 8985 Timing Tapes - Perfect Timing Solution for Optimal Performance by Sean Maples

Works and holds up well as long as you use common sense.

So the tape is excellent. For everyone who says it doesn't stick. You're probably expecting too much. A shiny and/or oily surface will prevent this tape from sticking. Therefore, if you decide to buy one, first clean the entire surface of the balancer with an evaporating solvent (brake cleaner, acetone, etc.). Then wipe off the paint. After applying the tape, apply three coats of clear, high-temp motor paint to it. It won't come off. I agree that if you have a typical aftermarket tab on an SBC, the lines on the tape will be closed. I had to order an empty index. It's worth it if you get more fine tuning. Don't rely on your balancer or the current tab for help. Set the top dead center by first observing the stroke of the piston and then installing the tape measure/pointer. This is a great CHEAP option for buying a new graduated balancer. Just take the time to prep and everything will stick perfectly, for goodness sake it's duct tape and $7 for shipping!
