I have renovated both showers in my house and have used two different versions of this valve (this one which is for the shower only and also the one which has a tub opening). I attached my supply lines and shower line to this valve with threaded fittings (instead of soldering) - just make sure to use both liquid thread sealant and thread sealing tape to ensure there are no leaks. I had to get a little creative to attach this valve - it has a few small holes that can be nailed or screwed into a substrate or frame - but I've found that if you just mount the valve in a pre-existing shower (and you do not change anything in the environment), they are difficult to access to protect them. I actually tapped these holes and drove some machine screws in through a piece of wood from the back. It's not easy, but it's the best I could have imagined given the circumstances.
