Over the last 3 winters I have bought 5-7 different types of dog boots for our soon to be 3 year old Irish Setter. Dog Information/Use: 50 lbs. Irish Setter, living in downtown Chicago, walks at least 3 hours every day, sometimes more and for longer periods of time. bear again until this night. If your dog has to wear boots I STRONGLY recommend that you use at least two sets/alternate them otherwise they won't have enough time to dry and will get really smelly. My main criteria for boots is that they are easy/quick to put on, dog paw friendly, stay in place and withstand heavy use for at least 3 months. Previous boots I have tried or used are Pawz, Black, M: very difficult to put on, the dog wore them like "bracelets" in 30 seconds BC. they were torn to shreds. I have not seen these balloon boots work on active dogs over 30 pounds. Ruffwear Summit Trex, Storm Gray, Size. 2.5: These boots were almost impossible to wear with tight socks like the hole and came back for exactly that reason. Ultra Paw, Black, Medium: They are difficult to put on at first as there is foam pads/bumpers in the ankle area that help keep the boots on the road but also make it difficult to get the dog's paw first. in. Pros - They are relatively cheap on any site, ranging from $20-$35. Cons: Cheap to manufacture, very slippery, and plastic cracks/cracks within months of use. Kurgo Step Strobe Boots, Yellow/Grey, Size M: Difficult to put on at first but gets easier over time as they have a longer neck (doggy high tops I think). Pros: They have bungees and a Velcro strap that secures them to your dog's paws. They are in very good condition and will probably last us 1.5 winters (every other pair lasts 1 winter at best). Cons - the headlights quickly burned out, and after 3 months of use, cracks appeared on the soles of two boots in which the battery for the headlights is located. However, since the rest of the shoe is fine, I made a tiny cut with a precision knife, took out the batteries and applied a ton of Shoe Goo glue to it. the best boots and we have our 3rd pair in 3 years. I have one of these sets in Keenan's rotation all the time. Pros: They open very wide, making it easy to get on your dog's paw. They come with two boots for the front paws and two for the back paws - this difference in size helps with correct sizing (dogs' front paws are larger than the back paws). Pretty good sole trends, not as pretty as the Ruffwear Vibram soles but they get the job done. Cons: They can cost $50-65 per set and you need to be sure you don't put them on wool rugs etc as the velcro will hold them in place and they don't stay that secure over time and we've had trouble loading them at times. fly in the air - Ruffwear Polar Trex, Forest Green, size 2.5: I had high hopes for these boots, and rightly so at $100 a set. Pros: very high quality boots. Cons: Can't be put on dog paws, they are much smaller than other brands listed for 2.5 inch dog paws, zipper flap on top of fabric didn't really cover the zipper when it was on dog paws. worried that with prolonged use (30 minutes) they will start to rub and cause a hot spot on my dog's ankle/leg. I bought them from Myhoovesandpaws and started the return process. I'll update the review once I find out how the Revain store handles returns.
