This unit has an angled mounting plate which is handy and allows it to be placed lower rather than something sticking straight out of the handlebars. Each part is metal and appears to be very dense and durable, and it seems that all this is unlikely to wear out quickly with daily use of the device. you will fall anyway I have a protective case on my phone which I would recommend anyway to protect your phone and if you tighten the mount enough it feels more secure and doesn't let the mount crush your phone like a vise. (I would advise not to hesitate).
