I am a retired RN and homemaker with no knowledge of electrical circuits. One thing I'm scared of in my life is electrical fires and house fires. A switch in my kitchen clicked, which was totally unexpected. I don't want to call an electrician just because of my phobia, so I bought this device to check the outlets in my house. Reading online about wiring, I was relieved to see that our house has 3-prong outlets, which to my knowledge are safer than the old 2-prong outlets. This gadget does not work on two-pin sockets. I checked our outlets with it and it says everything is fine so I'm happy. Might be wrong for security reasons, but it's better than nothing. I may seem very stupid to someone who knows at least a little about electricity, but personally I'm happy with him. If this circuit breaker keeps tripping, I'll have a professional look at it.
