Excellent value for money

This review is for the OMMO Laser Level, a self-leveling 16-line green laser level. I originally bought this level to settle a dispute between my siding contractor and myself. I claimed that the plank he installed in front of my house had a pronounced upward curve in the middle, he swore it was perfectly straight. This level told a story; I was right and the contractor did everything right. Which brings us to the first question - does this level work outdoors? The answer is yes, but with some caveats: like all levels in this price range, it can't be seen from any distance in direct sunlight. If this is important to you, you can use this level in pulse mode with a laser detector. Otherwise, outdoor use requires that it is morning, evening, cloudy or your project is where there is no sun. In late afternoon light, when the sun is on the opposite side of the house, about 25 feet at 0, 90, 180, and 270 degrees will do. It is clear that the dimmer the light, the further it can be seen. You can blind the halfway neighbors at night if you want. Indoors, however, the thing really shines. Lines, both horizontal and vertical, are bright and sharp, and the self-leveling feature is very accurate (tested at around 30ft indoors, although it can easily work over longer distances). I just laid out the recessed ceiling lights in my office and compared them to a layout I did in another room about six weeks ago. The first room took me maybe an hour and a half, using rope and nails to lay out my trellis; I KO'd that last room in 15 minutes max with this level. Incredible time saver. The level also has a manual mode. It comes with a lifting table, as well as a variety of adapters that allow you to mount it on a tripod, hang it on a wall, or hang it from something magnetic. Haven't used anything other than a tripod mount yet, but the other adapters look solid. Everything comes in a very nice soft lined case. Last but not least: DO NOT skimp on a tripod. I did it and I regret it. Buy a quality, durable tripod with damping adjustment and built-in bubble levels, and life gets better.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Almost everything is fine
