Review on Retevis Frequency Channel Emergency Programming by Amanda Ellis

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works good, sounds good.

Received it today but first impressions and range test compares well to much more expensive units although probably not as resistant to damage or water. but for 1/10 the price it can't be considered a big problem. Mine was packaged in pairs with 2 USB charging cables but only one charger per pair so that might be a consideration if you want to charge them all differently. puts. Of course, it doesn't matter if another USB source is nearby. I also have a programming cable, but the minidisk only has Windows and MAC drivers and I'm using Linux. This is not a problem as there is an open source and free CHIRP utility that can be used to make many of these radios. You just need to make sure that the Linux "user" has permission to use the serial and USB ports. They spoke on Cobra MicroTalk radios but I had to reprogram them not to use privacy codes as I didn't have time to play around with Cobras and this made the first 5 channels on the same frequencies. I'm sure they can be connected to many more radios if you have the right cables. Update With "Chirp" I've made a few changes and these radios can be made to work with Kenwood Protalk, Motorola CLS1110 and CLS1410 and Vertex Standard VX. -261. I didn't have to change settings on other radios to get at least some of the channels working. Of course, not everything can be made compatible with everything else, but I can use them with the much more expensive radios that we already had, as well as other cheaper UHF radios. I had to use chirp to change a few frequencies and privacy codes (67 seems common).

Pros

Cons
  • Reliability
