These compasses are Brand New - Complete Scrap - Don't waste your money. I am a Boy Scout leader and bought three medals (15) to give out to crew members for sailing the Bahamas this summer. I laid out the compasses and let them settle, but after a few days I was still getting almost random course readings. North readings differ by up to 45 degrees in both directions (east and west). Touching a compass disc or table may give you the correct reading (if you already know which way north is), but that orientation is not maintained for long. I guess it's not surprising that you get what you pay for here, but I made this purchase because other reviews I've read suggested much better quality. They were wrong - they are useless and don't work like compasses and my money was wasted.
