This little softbox works wonders considering its cost and what it was REALLY designed for. it is not intended to replace a large or even medium-sized softbox. If you want to attenuate that amount of light, simply buy a larger umbrella or softbox. This will make the light from your off-camera flash/flash MUCH less harsh. It takes a little getting used to, but I never leave without one of these in my bag. It also reduces the harshness of your flash to others when filming groups or social events. You lose about 1/3 of a stop, but if you know what you're doing you'll learn to make up for it. The only thing I didn't like was that the Velcro attaches to the softbox itself. The spiky side of the velcro is attached to the softbox, suggesting that you attach the soft side of the velcro to the flash. NOT CORRECT. I configured all the other elements (gobo, snoot, gel holder, etc.) so that the hard velcro is on my flash, so I had to remove the velcro (good velcro btw) from the softbox and glue the soft velcro to the back of the softbox . kind of pain. let's make a decision about our settings next time, lumiquest. But seriously, for so little money you can't afford NOT to try it. It looks a bit silly, but once you see the results, you won't mind how it looks. i haven't used my sto-fen diffuser since i bought it.
