📸 LumiQuest Mini SoftBox LQ-108S: Perfect Lighting Solution with UltraStrap Review

I'm not completely sold out yet. I've had it for almost a month now, but I'm not sure I find any value in it. I guess if you can't hop it's the next best thing. The problem occurs when you realize that you lose about 1 stop of light. You wonder if there is even a true "blur" and just forces you to lose a light stop to create a "softer" light. While not entirely sure if it's worth the money, it didn't cost that much so I'll keep it and try more.

I bought this along with the LumiQuest pocket rocker and belt strap and they are all great products to take anywhere. I have a Canon 430EX flash and they are all great for controlling flash output and adding warmth to images. The softbox works particularly well when the flash is used in the "straight" position and is very helpful in removing the "highlight" on the forehead, cutting off the harshness of the shadows and adding more warmth to people's pictures. Some reviewers don't understand what this product does, I'm a pro who uses it all the time. In low light outdoor conditions where you need a fill flash, the camera flash is too harsh at the lowest setting. This helps dim the light quite well and allows you to use the camera's fill light indoors and outdoors in low light. It's a tool, but you have to know what to do with it. After trying this on a Nikon SB-400 flash attached with a LumiQuest Cinch Strap I decided to try it on a Sima Ultra Bright Video Light attached with the included Velcro -felt strip was attached. (I get complaints that the light is too bright while filming.) Wow, what a difference. This softbox takes over from Sima Light and now delivers nice key/fill light in low light conditions. This little softbox works wonders considering its cost and what it was REALLY designed for. it is not intended to replace a large or even medium-sized softbox. If you want to attenuate that amount of light, simply buy a larger umbrella or softbox. This will make the light from your off-camera flash/flash MUCH less harsh. It takes a little getting used to, but I never leave without one of these in my bag. It also reduces the harshness of your flash to others when filming groups or social events.
