Review on Compact Storage Solution: Introducing the XLAB Mini Cage Pod by Evan Hernandez

A handy mount if you don't need more than the bare minimum

XLAB mini camera works as described. When I found out that the Half Ironman circuit I was on was changing bottles, I decided to mount this part on the back of my existing XLAB P-Cage single bottle cage. I use a Fizik saddle and a P-Cage well attached to it. I've read some reviews that the threaded top of the Mini Cage isn't strong enough to hold the bottle in place (I disagree). I've also read reviews stating that this item is thrown off the back of its rear holders along with its contents (but can't see this). I chose this item because these reviews seemed to be the exception rather than the rule and the cost was not prohibitive for such an elegant storage solution for essential repair gear. However, I took some precautions to calm myself. First I put 2 levers, 2 CO2 cartridges, a multi-tool and a tube in the supplied fleece pocket of the mini cage and screwed on the lid. Items just fit, which is good because there is no movement, shifting, or rumbling of the contents while driving. I then used a layer of tape to tape the two pieces together, leaving a 'tab' for easy access if I needed to use the contents. There's a caveat here: in these types of races there are always people who have to change homes, so you need to be prepared whether that person is you on race day or if you're training from home and out of camera range! As another layer of protection, I attached the bottle to the P-Cage with 2 black rubber O-rings that encircled both the bottle and the P-Cage post (one on top, one on bottom). This thing will never land and will never leave me in a bad situation. I would recommend it to any cyclist/triathlete.
