This collar changed my stubborn coonhound!

A year ago I took a red greyhound; a dog with an incredibly affectionate demeanor, who is fun to be around and a good choice overall; However, it is also stubborn, single-minded - in search of scents - and regularly catches squirrels. I am retired and walk him 5-6 miles daily and since I have him he pulls on the leash 100% of the time. I went through 4 trainers before finding one that could help me change his behavior, but despite trying hard, his memory was still terrible and his general behavior and reaction to basic commands were random at best. I've read books on dog training, watched videos on YouTube and really championed the idea that e-collars are a humane training tool and that a lot of people these days seem to say that the only way is to use positive techniques. About a month ago I hit a wall; my dog and I were crossing our first anniversary together and while visiting friends someone accidentally let him out of the house; He ran down the street and I only got him back after someone caught him in the yard almost a mile away. It's clear his behavior is a problem, but I always knew that he could easily be hit by a car if he loses control as he's oblivious to traffic. After discussing this with our trainer, we decided to buy a Dogtra collar. At first he was confused by the sensations, but literally in two weeks of daily training his behavior changed overnight. As other reviewers have pointed out, at its working level (around 35), sensation (and yes, I've used it on myself) is more attention-grabbing than pain shock; We've gotten to the point where he's 100% coming to me when he calls and in just a few weeks I rarely have to get his attention with a collar. This week has been a big break for us as for the first time I have been able to work with him off leash in a public park without worrying that he will run, he leans on my knee 90% of the time and we are working now with extended length teams. He is a very happy guy and it has actually improved our relationship as I became much calmer when I was with him and I didn't have to fight his urges and risk running away if I lost control. He has more freedom since we can go off leash to the parks and I enjoy spending time with him more and more. Half a year ago I doubted whether I could keep him and now I'm glad I stayed with him. I know that many dogs can be successfully trained without an electronic collar; Our trainer tells me that my dog is the most stubborn dog she has worked with in 12 years of training and she is very impressed with the amazing progress made in such a short time.
