I bought this scanner to replace an old HP 3790 flatbed scanner that broke after years of faithful service. I was surprised that the quality of the photos scanned on the LiDE 25 was slightly better than on the older and more expensive HP scanner. The colors had a slight red cast until I went to the Advanced menu -> Settings -> Color Settings and unchecked Color Matching. After that, the colors were absolutely perfect, even better than the older HP 3790. On my machine with WinXP 2.66 GHz and 1.5 MB RAM via USB 2.0, a 3.5 x 5 inch photo was scanned at 600 dpi in 35 seconds, at 300 dpi the same picture took 18 seconds. I'm happy with that. If the Color Matching option was off by default, I'd give it a solid 5 stars. Note that I only use this scanner for archiving photos. Pros: Excellent scan quality. Reasonable speed. Uses LEDs, consumes less power than older light tube scanners. No warm-up time required. No power required, powered by USB port. After turning off auto color matching, the colors were perfect. Bad point: I had to disable automatic color matching to get perfect colors. The value for money is excellent. ken
