Review on BDL170 Bullseye Auto Leveling by BLACK+DECKER by Michael Boyle

I'm a jack of all trades and do a lot of jobs that require a laser level. My old B&D BDL100 finally gave up the ghost after about 8 years of service. That's why I bought this model after a short search. I have to say that after a few months of use I haven't become a huge fan. This model has some good things, but they are not enough: the way it is attached to the wall is unsatisfactory. The sting is only a few millimeters long and thick. Leaves a large, visible hole in the wall. The old model had an injection pin that left a very small hole. And was long enough to stay on the wall. I used a new one and when I tapped the nail it fell off the wall. I used the command bar as suggested but it's not the same. Also, the magnet holder just isn't strong. Needs a redesign. The laser is bright and powerful, but it's either/or the direction. My old self could put it in the middle of the wall and it would shoot both ways. But my old one didn't come off, so plus for the new one as it is. Even the new one can make corners. But I left without using them on my old one. So a plus for new, but not good enough. The battery life is short. New - two AAA batteries. Old 9 volts. Besides, the old one was also a spike finder. It's not like this. So now I carry two instruments instead of one. That's just not good for a handyman who uses this type of device a lot. I think it's ok for home. But not a "professional" tool. Wall mounting should really be better. I will probably sell this one, find a BDL100 somewhere and use it in the future. Unless someone can recommend a new version that "sticks" to the wall and has a built-in spike finder.
