Review on πŸ”ͺ DMD Diamond Whetstone Sharpening Tool - Special Edition by Dale Toth

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Cheap and good quality (but no DMT)

I ordered this thinking it was a brand I already had... only realizing later that the name DMD is actually an attempt to confuse the customer and make them think they are shopping Sharpening system from DMT, an American company, several of whose products I own. If you want to buy an American, watch out. However, this is a pretty good product. I've been using Harbor Freight's coarse version on my kitchen knives for a number of years and it's a lot better. It is firm, stable and the croup is even and uniform. The 1200 grit side is good for sharpening knives and the rougher side is good for repairing damage. You're not given any real instructions, except that one piece of advice ("don't use oily water") isn't in line with common practice and what the product description says. The buyer is expected to be able to sharpen knives or other cutting tools. I took a slightly dull inexpensive kitchen knife from my pad and was able to sharpen it to a decent sharpness with a few swipes on the side of 1200 grit using water as a lubricant. Although not a DMT stone, it is quite cheap and the quality is good. It won't replace Arkansas bricks in my shop, but I think it'll make a nice addition to my kitchen tool rack.

Pros
  • πŸ”ͺSpecial three-sided design: 150 grit, 325 grit for heavy stock removal and 1200 grit for honing and maintenance.
Cons
  • Slightly torn
