Stant Gas Cap 10841: I purchased to replace the original gas cap on my 2005 Chevy Aveo Hatchback which has a conveniently attached cable would have. The original gas cap became loose, loose and no longer offered a secure closure. This Stant cover replacement fixes the problem and provides a very reliable, secure solution with the only downside being the lack of a handy tether strap... an uncomfortable issue. Before buying, I read many reviews about it, but still decided to buy it. So I was prepared according to the principle "forewarned is prepared" ... and could easily be satisfied. However... I looked at the original tethered gas cap and found that it works thanks to a sliding "ring/ring" that slides easily to accommodate the motion required when tightening and loosening the refill cap. If you had known this before getting rid of it and installing the new STANT cap, you could have received an award for the attention to detail. I tore this slip ring off the original...then examined the new STANT gas cap. The original was 7mm. A wide, indented/recessed portion [rail] around the outer perimeter of the cap designed to hold the gorget while allowing for easy sliding. The collar was made of a semi-rigid material, but with persistence it could be removed without damage. [Maybe silicone spray will make it easier to remove.] STANT's new lid has 16 thin "ribs" for better grip around the outer perimeter. The original collar hasn't shifted on the new hat...at least not yet. The ribs measured about 11mm... top to bottom... and the collar was only about 7mm wide, so see the possibilities... Are you a smart person? Using a Dremmel parting tool at the lowest possible speed [and wearing safety goggles] I removed the bottom 7mm of each rib leaving the top 4mm intact. [Ok so I completely flattened 2 ribs so I could easily fit the collar onto the new STANT cap.] By doing this I created a recessed path to attach the standard collar to the STANT 10841. good now like new or even better than received. It worked great on my Aveo.
