Subaru 2006 Impreza 2.5i station wagon

Introduction: Firstly, I am new to cars. While I know in theory how to do some things like changing the oil in a car, I've actually never done it myself because I'm just as happy to pay someone to take care of it every 3 months / 3500 miles. However, I installed it myself, which should give you an idea of how easy it is. I used the Revain website's "garage" feature to filter out parts for my Subaru Impreza. I have checked these parts on other websites where you can find these parts so I can be doubly sure that they will fit my car. Reviews for some spark plugs for my car mentioned that Revain sometimes gets it wrong so I would recommend doing this for all your parts to avoid the hassle of returning an item. I bought my Subaru 2008 used and from day one I remember this every time: Whenever I used the air conditioning there was a strange slightly disgusting smell that hung around for the first 5-10 minutes. I ignored this and learned to keep the windows open for the first few minutes to avoid the smell. I really didn't have the time or budget as I bought the car out of necessity and didn't have much money. Finally decided to buy this one: I'm now close to the release and I have enough time where I started to study this problem. I thought the cabin air filter was the problem and after looking at my manual (I'm not very good with cars) I found that the replacement was relatively easy, if a little cumbersome. So I bought it for a relatively cheap $16 (Recently I had to take my car to the dealer for a free software update and they offered me $110 to replace the cabin air filter). I couldn't remove it completely as I didn't disconnect the wire to the bulb in the glove box. So I worked on it. Pulled out the old one which was DIRTY! (I uploaded a photo of the old one) and pasted this one here. I had to work around a wire I couldn't pull off, but these things are pretty flexible so it wasn't too difficult. I did everything myself and made sure I have everything I need before getting to work, including something to secure each of the 9 screws. Results: I noticed a significant improvement in air quality. The air conditioning not only works odor-free now, I don't feel as nauseous as before for the first few minutes, and the air comes out faster and with more force. I think the new cleaner filter lets air through with fewer obstructions. This may be the first time it has been replaced in 4-5 years. Maybe that's why the difference was so dramatic? I think $16 and the 15-20 minutes it takes to replace the element is worth it if you are suffering from a weird smell from the air conditioner. Or, if you just want to make sure you're breathing better quality air (again, check out the photos I've uploaded here).
