Review on Dependable Performance with Standard Motor Products RU60 Resistor by Jonathan Fernandez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

SMP makes good parts and replacing is a lot harder than it should be, but you can do it

Once a year in my 2000s Impala jumped and none of the fan speeds worked except high.Using the magic of the internet I discovered it was a resistor and thanks to YouTube I watched the process and decided to give it a try.Restaurant in a sadistic pose under one Torpedo, and I was able to get the job done without removing the passenger seat, I just rolled the seat all the way in. To get in and out, I sat in the passenger seat and, twisting on my butt, rotated my legs counter-clockwise over the driver's seat. From there I chose the most comfortable position to lie upside down with my head under the dash The only tools I used were a regular screw screwdriver, a 7/32 socket, all the screws and a 1/4 inch flex-shaft hand screwdriver because I use him SHUTTER, works upside down, trying to get his hands in position to turn the latches. You'll need a small hooked work lamp, like the free ones you get at Harbor Freight, to see what you're doing. Of the three screws that hold the resistor in place, the one on the angled side is relatively easy. The two screws on the flat side are a different story. They are on the same layer as the firewall and it is difficult to set up even a socket on them. One is quite complex but doable. The other cannot be seen and trying to get there is just a waste of time. Luckily, if you remove the other two, you can remove the resistor's plastic case from the inaccessible screw with a decent yank. Just be sure to loosen the inaccessible screw a few turns before reinstalling. My old resistance was sooted and broken in half. This RU60 resistor doesn't look as solid as the one that came off the car, but I've never had a problem with Standard Motor Products so I'm sure it will be fine. Installation was actually easier than removal and the new part works great.
