Review on ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ IKEA Bamboo Kitchen Chopping Board, LAMPLIG, 18 x 20.75 by Kayla Johnson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Product quality has deteriorated in eight years

Cheaper materials, heat shrink - I think that's the American way (although I know IKEA isn't an American company). I bought one of these cutting boards 8 years ago because it fit my very old 20" Magic Chef and served me well. It warped (my fault - I probably didn't oil it enough etc) and I thought it was would be time to get a new one and burn the old one. This new one. Okay it still fits.. It's about 3/16" thinner than the one I bought 8 years ago which leads me to believe that Warping will occur a little sooner and it's bamboo, not wood like the old one. The description said it was bamboo so I knew about it. However, bamboo fibers rise faster than other types of wood when cut with a knife. As for warping, if you want a cutting board that doesn't warp, you'll need to shell out a few hundred dollars for a 2-3 inch thick real hardwood board. I live 350 miles from the nearest Ikea store and they win. I can't ship it so I was willing to pay the price (but it seems like a lot!) All in all it will do. Too bad the quality degrades over time. I'd happily pay more to get the "original" version of this, but I'm sure someone looked at the numbers and saw that most consumers wouldn't, so the answer was an easy one deterioration in quality. Sigh!
