Review on Enhanced Connectivity with Belkin F5D5231-4 4-Port Cable/DSL Router by Micheal Esquivel

Simple, Elegant and Efficient

I bought this about 4 months ago to replace my Linksys HPRO200 router whose PPPoE wasn't working with my new Yahoo DSL SBC and whose firmware in the last two hadn't been updated for years. I have to say this is a great product. Very easy to set up. If you know the basics of setting up a router, you can set it up in 5 minutes. You don't even need the included CD. Simply connect your DSL modem to your router and your router to your computer and navigate to 192.168.2.1 (the router's default IP address - you can change it). The setup screens are very friendly. In my case (Yahoo DSL SBC) I just had to go to "Connection Type", select PPPoE and enter the login ID and password and it connected immediately. The device itself looks much more professional and sleek than the blue Linksys routers. It can be laid flat on the floor or stood upright using the small stand that is included. It also has a 4 port switch replacing the Linksys switch I had. The price is unbeatable [.]. I would probably choose a different model if I didn't already have a wireless access point, but what I was looking for was a basic router and it fits my needs perfectly. Well, the reason I only give it 4 stars – One issue I have with this router is that it freezes from time to time – once a week or so. Since I keep this in my basement, that means I have to go down there to dispose of it. I'm not sure if this is an issue with this product or something in my house or network that is causing the hang, but this has never happened with a Linksys router (on the same network in the same house). It's a bit annoying.
