Great cable, easy to use and adjust

With airlines lowering their carry-on restrictions, I had to buy a smaller laptop bag and reduce the amount of luggage I could carry. With this cable and a pair of RJ45/DB9 shrouds, I was able to ditch all my other serial cables and adapters in a fairly small and low profile package that takes up almost no space and is lightweight. Also does not need drivers on my tablet with Windows 10. For this I made two adapters that now allow me to access everything I need regularly, mainly Cisco and HP switches. For devices that require a null modem cable, I used an RJ45/DB9F adapter and converted that cable back to a standard serial port (so I can use any proprietary cables or any device that uses a straight-through cable, like most commercial UPS systems) . I used an RJ45/DB9M adapter. Both adapters plug directly into the zippered pouch used to carry this cable. The pinout (and standard RJ45 body color code) for these adapters is as follows: for the DB9M/DTE adapter 1 blue (cts) -> 8 2 orange (dsr) -> 6 3 black (rxd) -> 2 4 red (ground) (cut off) 5 green (gnd) -> 5 6 yellow (txd) -> 3 7 brown (dtr) -> 4 8 white (rts) -> 7 For DB9F/DCE/null modem adapter 1 blue (cts) -> 7 2 orange (dsr) -> 4 3 black (rxd) -> 3 4 red (gnd) (clipped) 5 green (gnd) -> 5 6 yellow (txd) -> 2 7 brown (dtr) -> 6 8 white (rts) -> 8 Check the color codes on the RJ45 hoods before assembly - manufacturers are known to ignore color standards.
