Poor customer service

Customers should be aware that the treble and bass knobs are very fragile, they may be made of eggshell. For 7 years I have broken 2 handles on this radio tape recorder, a treble and a bass. At $19 a pin, only $38 for buttons that should never break, that seems like a lot. Shipping was about $13 which is prohibitive for such a light and small pen, every time the pen broke. I still don't know how either handle broke, I think over time the cheap plastic just got brittle and they just fell apart. Poor quality of important control buttons. Sound quality with Aux. the hole in the back is much worse in sound quality than from the radio. Tries to listen to Pandora on Aux. input and it sounded awful. This radio is a mostly solidly built storm radio with good AM/FM, weather and 2m reception. I think with an analogue screen it would eat up less battery. It runs on D batteries, so you'd better have a good supply of D-Batt before the storm hits. For this reason I believe this radio is best used when connected to AC power. I've used this during the Hurricane Sandy blackout and many outages over time and it's been very well received. Reception is radio's greatest asset. The screen started to rust over time, I don't know why as it was never directly exposed to rain. I had higher expectations for a radio in this price range and didn't anticipate the problems I had and the poor after-sales service that was offered for what I felt was a manufacturer's fault. I would love to give C Crane 5 stars but I had to deduct one star for flimsy plastic that will fail over time and another star for their poor customer service. If I had known beforehand that the handles could break, I would have bought a different radio.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Annoyed

I have purchased fifteen of these "CC RADIOS" from C CRANE since 1995 and continue to do so.

Defective and potentially dangerous when a radio needed is neede in an emergency.
