We have had this camera since June 1st 2021 and we bought it to see if a compact full frame camera would work for us. We were looking for a smaller camera that wasn't an APS-C sensor-based camera. First, a little background. My wife and I are passionate semi-professional photographers and own a Canon R5, Canon R6, Nikon Z6 II and Fuji X T4, as well as a good range of Canon RF, Nikon SZ and Fuji XF lenses. I had Sony A7RIII and A7RIV and traded them for Canon R5 and R6 cameras. In my case, we have been taking photographs for over 60 years. I just swapped the Sony A7RIII and Sony A7RIV because I didn't like taking pictures with them. They were technically excellent but difficult to use and the new Canons (R5 and R6) were a revelation to use and I "wanted" to shoot with them. I say that because I expected I wouldn't like this A7C. It shares the same menu system as the A7RIII and A7RIV (which I didn't like), and comments about the EVF and lack of controls in the reviews made me wonder why I wanted to try it. instantly. Image quality is excellent, autofocus is excellent. This is a full-frame camera in an APS-C body and is exceptionally easy to handle. Somehow those awkward angles etc of tall bodies go away and it feels so good for both my wife and me in my arms. I can't confirm if the autofocus is better than the A 7III, but it appears to be the same as the A 7RIII and A 7RIV, if not slightly better (I don't have them side by side to test, but it definitely is ). In short, we love this camera and, and this is the 'real' test, we tend to pick it up when looking for a just-in-case camera. Pros: 1. Small body that feels solid and well made. Good quality access doors (no flexible rubber plugs to pieces) and fully weatherproof.2. Excellent off-body JPGs, excellent RAWs, and easily recoverable detail in shadows and highlights.3. Excellent auto focus that sticks to your subject.4. Fast work.5. Flexible "flip" screen.6. Access to a wide range of FE.7 lenses. The kit lens is much better than expected and very small. Great for street photography and the only lens you can carry.8. Excellent battery life.9. Outstanding video output.10. In body image stabilization. Cons: 1. The electronic viewfinder is really terrible but almost allows you to point the camera and take a picture when the rear screen is not visible.2. The lack of a joystick annoys me, but you get used to it.3. The kit lens is short with a maximum focal length of 60mm and the wide angle is not wide enough (28mm). An equivalent Canon RF 24 -105 f/4 - 7.1 would be great.4. Sony lenses are big for their capabilities (F/4 24 -105 is huge), Canon makes smaller and better full-frame lenses. However, Tamron fills the gap. We bought a Tamron F/2.8-5.6 28x200mm for the A 7C and it fits well, still not small but light and still easy to use and handle.5. IBIS is not good enough for video and needs a stabilizer. We love this camera and use it a lot (we've taken around 4000 shots already!) and have used it in a variety of environments where it excels. We recommend.
